Chinese New Year

posted Jan 23, 2012, 11:25 AM by Sue Hersey
Mei taught us a lot about the Chinese New Year today.  The Chinese New Year begins on the first full moon of the new year.  Mei explained many traditions surrounding this holiday.  We listened to two stories explaining how the names of each year originated.  She also taught us how to say a few phrases in Chinese.  Then she gave us each a red envelope with coins inside ( really candy) which is a tradition.  We also received a chinese pencil, eraser and a copy of the Chinese Calendar.  Our last treat was delicious cupcakes with the Chinese good luck character on the frosting.
Thank you to Mei for teaching us so much about another culture and it's traditions.
