Math: Geometry

posted Dec 10, 2013, 11:09 AM by Unknown user
We are working on geometry standards in our math class.  We have reviewed geometric shapes and their specific names, ex. polygons, quadrilaterals, parallelograms, octagons, etc.  Now we're focusing on specific lines such as parallel, perpendicular and intersecting.  Mrs. Hersey gave us the following challenge:  Use 4 toothpicks, ends must touch and lines may be perpendicular.  How many different designs could we make? We can' t make congruent designs either, so we need to flip, slide and rotate to check. The purpose is to help us review perpendicular lines.  So far we have made about 10 different ones, and we know there are 16 possibilities.  We need math persistence to work on this challenge!
