Mrs. Hersey gave us a challenge to use our new math skills for figuring out elapsed time. We worked with a partner to create a museum schedule of open hours. Sounds easy, right? Not! There were specific parts to the challenge to consider such as: the woman in charge could only work six hours a day for five days, preschool children could only go to the museum in the mornings, school-age children get out of school at 2:50, working parents can only go on weekends, etc. We had to create a schedule that would have the museum open a fair amount of hours for each of those groups of people. It took several days to find a solution to this challenge. Then we created a sign for the museum door. It was really interesting to see the seven, very different, solutions to this challenge. |
