Social Studies: Field Trip to the Abbe Museum

posted Apr 10, 2013, 11:26 AM by Sue Hersey
Today we enjoyed learning more about Native Americans by visiting the Abbe Museum.  Curator, George Neptune, taught about basket making.  He explained two types of materials used by Native Americans are birch bark and ash. He showed us how each material is used to create either work or fancy baskets.  We learned that he is a basket maker himself.  We then got to look more closely at several artifacts to determine the weave, material and use of the basket.  He is a great speaker and we learned a lot. He is also a wonderful basket maker.
