Today we had a walking field trip to the Abbe Museum to learn about Wabenaki basket making.  The program educator was George Neptune, an expert basket maker himself.  We learned about materials, tools, techniques and uses for baskets.

Next, we examined particular baskets in small groups to determine how the baskets were used and whether they were old or recently made by examining the materials, patterns and colors.

After that, Mr. Neptune gave us a tour of the museum and gift shop.  We were just amazed at how beautiful and intricate the baskets are and how artistic they can be as well as useful.

After the museum program we enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Village Green and then walked back to school.
Great day!
