Fourth Grade Day on Swans Island

Last Friday all the fourth grade students on Mount Desert Island and Trenton boarded the ferry for a trip to Swans Island.  It is an annual fourth grade trip to meet each other and also to meet keypals with whom students have been exchanging emails all year.  It is an opportunity to see what life is like on a smaller island off the coast of Maine.
For some students it is their first ferry boat ride.

First, we gathered in the school gym and played a get acquainted game.  Next, we broke into four groups to do the following activities:  cemetery search, unnatural trail ( items are hidden and students had to find them to check off on a list), a bus tour of the island - to learn about the different towns, and then free time on the playground with our new friends.  We enjoyed our lunch on the beach, too.

Ask us about the different items that were hidden.

We had a terrific time on this special field trip.  What a terrific way to celebrate our year in fourth grade!
